A
Rememberance Service and Tree Planting
Ceremony to honour fallen soldiers from the local area was held at the
Dublin Institute on Sunday 9th November 2014 arranged by the Dublin History
Group.
The District Council
of Mallala Partenerships Grant, Australian Government's ANZAC Centenery
Local Grants Program, Dublin History Group and local community donations
provided the funding.
The criterior for
inclusion in the Memorial Avenue were those that were named on local Honour
Rolls. A further seven were also discovered by the Dublin History Group
while researching the soldiers. Whilst it cannot be established why these
few were not recorded on the honour rolls, they will be honoured within
the new Memorial Garden at the Institute to be established later this
year (2015).
The trees are well
known for forming dense shade. They will grow to about 10 meters tall
with a yellow flower in spring and an orange berry in summer. |
